Liverpool set up meeting with agent Jorge Mendes over signing ‘not normal’ Sporting player

Despite a superb start under Arne Slot, Liverpool are already looking ahead to the future.

The Reds could hardly have begun the season in better fashion, with Slot leading them eight points clear in the Premier League table.

But despite a feeling that the Dutch coach is getting the most out of the Liverpool squad at his disposal, it’s clear that he is also very much working with a team that belonged to Jurgen Klopp.

As a result, Slot is set to spend the next two transfer windows shaping his vision for the team.

Part of that may be re-dressing the Liverpool forward line. If Mohamed Salah leaves Anfield over the summer, then that is certainly an area that Slot could look to do business in.

And in that vein, the Reds have reportedly already set up a meeting with super agent Jorge Mendes to get themselves in the queue for a burgeoning Portuguese talent.

Liverpool getting in line for Geovany Quenda

If Salah does leave, then it would feel important for Liverpool to bring in a left-footed forward.

This would not be imperative, of course, but over recent years the Reds have tended to play with a left-footer on the right and a right-footer on the left.

If Salah goes, then there is no one to really fill that gap in the squad, and no genuinely standout options to come straight in.

As a result, it would make sense for Liverpool to perhaps look to a younger player who can grow into the role.

And if that is the plan then who better than Sporting youngster Geovany Quenda. Quenda has been a breakout star for the Portuguese side this season.

Despite being just 17, Quenda has already played 20 times for Sporting this season. And according to TeamTalk, this has alerted all of Europe’s top sides.

Liverpool are said to be one of the latest clubs who have arranged a sit-down with Mendes to ‘discuss the parameters of a potential transfer’.

Liverpool not alone in Quenda chase

Quenda’s good form for Sporting has led to him catching the eye of the senior Portugal national team already.

Manager Roberto Martinez described Quenda as being ‘not normal‘ and he looks set for a long career with the Selecao.

As a result, it is no surprise to see TeamTalk claim that half of Europe is now trailing the teenager.

They report that as well as Liverpool, Mendes has either spoken to or is set to speak to Man United, Man City, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and PSG.

While they claim that reports of a £50m bid being prepared by United are ‘wide of the mark,’ it is reported that Mendes has ‘taken charge’ of Quenda’s future and is sounding out interested teams.
