£83m player sees his future in England and Liverpool are watching him closely

Liverpool may have the need to strengthen their forward line in the not-too-distant future.

The Reds are potentially set to lose Mohamed Salah and are going to have to find a creative way to replace his goals and assists.

Even if Salah does sign a new contract to stay at Liverpool beyond the end of the season, the Egyptian is now 32-years-old.

You wouldn’t put it past Salah to defy everyone and continue banging the goals in at a ridiculous rate for the next four or five years.

However, logic would suggest that Arne Slot is going to have to find a replacement in the Liverpool squad for his star forward at some stage soon.

And with that in mind, the Reds are reportedly keeping a close eye on an interesting prospect over in Germany.

Liverpool monitoring Jamie Gittens progress

Liverpool currently do not have a great need to add to their forward line. Slot has six top quality options to pick from when they’re all fit.

But in a year or even six months, that could be different. And according to Sky Germany reporter Patrick Berger, that’s the kind of timeline in which Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens could look to move to the Premier League.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are all monitoring the situation surrounding Jamie Gittens,” Berger says on X.

“BVB -Sports director Sebastian Kehl had only prematurely extended the contract with the mega jewel and breakthrough player (7 goals and 4 assists this season) until 2028 a year ago and raised the basic salary to around € 3m (without bonuses).”

“The winger is currently not thinking about leaving, feels comfortable in Dortmund and wants to stay for at least another year,” adds the journalist.

“However, according to Sky Infos, Gittens sees his long-term future in the Premier League. Potential clubs have already contacted the player’s management.

“If a club offers € 50m or € 60m in the summer, BVB will just shrug its shoulders. The sum that would make the Black and Yellows give in: € 100m [£83m].”

Jamie Gittens worth watching for future move

If Liverpool do lose Salah over the summer, then supporters would want to see a big name brought in to soften the blow.

That’s what makes a potential Liverpool move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia so intriguing.

Having said that, someone like Gittens is well worth keeping an eye on in the meantime, too.

The 20-year-old has stepped on the gas this season at Dortmund, scoring three times and laying on three assists in seven Bundesliga starts.

While these are not the numbers of an £83m player, they do at least show that Liverpool should be positioning themselves to take a run at Gittens if the chance arises.

The price would have to be better, but the former Man City academy player is one to keep an eye on.
