Liverpool look set to be busy in 2025, as a number of bubbling situations come to a head.

With Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all currently slated to leave the club, the Reds are going to have to be busy.

There has been transformative summers in the transfer market at Liverpool in the past, but getting it right if those three do depart is going to be absolutely crucial, and incredibly difficult.

Beyond that, though, there a number of big decisions to make over the rest of the Liverpool squad.

Having only made one signing during his time as Liverpool head coach so far, Arne Slot is surely keen to shape the group a little more to his liking.

And with that in mind, journalist James Pearce has now named the Reds player most likely to get the chop in 2025.

Caoimhin Kelleher most likely to be sold

Given how well their team is doing this season, Liverpool supporters will not want to see any player cut from the current squad.

Some players have featured far more than others, but everyone has played their part in putting the Reds at the top of the Premier League and Champions League.

Nevertheless, changes will be coming. And writing in The Athletic, Pearce suggests that goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is the ‘most likely’ to be playing for a new club in 2025.

“Caoimhin Kelleher is probably the most likely to be sold given he will be down to the final year of his contract come the summer,” says the reporter.

“The Republic of Ireland international is desperate to become a No 1 after serving a long apprenticeship as Alisson’s deputy and, despite his outstanding form during Alisson’s absence due to injury, Kelleher knows that’s unlikely to happen at Anfield with Mamardashvili arriving as well.

“Kelleher has wanted to leave for the past two summers but stayed put as Liverpool didn’t receive any offers that came close to recognising his value,” Pearce adds.

“In August, they turned down a bid of £7m plus goalkeeper Matt Turner from Nottingham Forest.”

Who are the other candidates?

With Kelleher performing heroics in the Liverpool goal during Alisson’s injury absence, most fans would love to see him stay for a long time yet.

However, there is also little question that the 26-year-old is ready to take on more permanent duties as a first choice goalkeeper. That remains just as unlikely as ever to happen at Liverpool.

As a result, it’s hard to argue that 2025 will be the year that Kelleher finally spreads his wings. Liverpool wanted £30m for Kelleher over the summer according to reports.

He isn’t the only candidate to be up for sale, though. There have been claims that Darwin Nunez is in last chance saloon at Liverpool, while Joe Gomez may look to move on too.

Both players would surely command decent fees for the Reds, with the likes of Tyler Morton, Kostas Tsimikas and even Andy Robertson potentially at risk as well.
