Liverpool’s season just keeps on getting better after registering yet another win on Wednesday night.
This was a big one as well, showing Real Madrid who’s boss on a raucous evening at Anfield.
The Reds had a poor record against the European champions heading into the game and with injuries ravaging Madrid a little, Liverpool knew they could secure a statement win.
Second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo got the job done, with Mohamed Salah even finding room to miss a penalty in front of the Kop.
There were a number of standout performers in the Liverpool squad, with Conor Bradley shackling Kylian Mbappe a particular highlight.
Gakpo was another who looked lively after coming on in the 68th minute. And clearly emboldened by a big goal in the Champions League, the Dutchman appeared to aim a dig at both Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid after the game.

Cody Gakpo sends ‘humble’ message
Gakpo’s introduction was needed on Wednesday. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez worked hard but offered little quality during the first-half.
With Nunez coming off and Diaz switching to the central attacking spot, though, Liverpool looked much more fluid.
That was topped off by Gakpo getting on the scoresheet, rising above the disappointing Luka Modric to head past Thibaut Courtois from close range.
Although Madrid’s powers of comeback are legendary, it was a nail in the coffin for the Spaniards.

Obviously delighted with the win, Gakpo posted on Instagram in the early hours of Thursday morning to share an interesting passage.
“God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble,” wrote the 25-year-old.
The first photograph on Gakpo’s post? A picture of he and Bellingham side by side. Make of that what you will!
Cody Gakpo gets Jude Bellingham revenge
Some may be wondering exactly why Gakpo would be taking aim at Bellingham, perhaps it is merely a coincidence.
However, as well as the 21-year-old’s well-known provocative nature on the pitch, the Liverpool No.18 probably has another reason to feel he owed Bellingham one, too.

It should be remembered that the Real Madrid midfielder was near enough the face of the England team who beat the Netherlands with a last-second winner at this summer’s Euros.
Given that the game was won in slightly controversial circumstances, it rankled heavily with the Dutch team.
Maybe Gakpo saw something he was not quite happy with from Bellingham in the aftermath of that victory. Or, perhaps he is simply pointing out that after all of Madrid’s antics surrounding the recent Ballon d’Or, they needed this Anfield humbling.
