Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala claims Liverpool once had a player who had a ‘perfect touch’

Jamal Musiala is one of the hottest prospects in world football and has been in fantastic form for Bayern Munich and Germany in 2024.

He was Germany’s standout player at Euro 2024 and has continued his rich vein of form under Vincent Kompany as the Bavarian giants find themselves at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

With his contract set to expire in 2026, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Musiala as he continues to have keen admirers across the continent.

If there is even a glimmer of hope of signing the German international, the Reds could turn to Thiago Alcantara to launch a charm offensive as the pair played together at Bayern.

And Musiala feels the former Liverpool midfielder once did something that absolutely blew him away.

Musiala swapped Chelsea for Bayern in the summer of 2020 and played together with Thiago for half a season before the Spaniard joined Liverpool.

The Bavarian giants won the UEFA Champions League that season under Hansi Flick, with Thiago emerging as the Man of the Match in the final against PSG.

The German youngster recounted a day in training when he was mesmerised by Thiago as he described him as a player with a ‘perfect’ first touch.

“When we got on the pitch, I remember seeing Thiago playing two-touch with somebody across the entire pitch,” said Musiala to Players’ Tribune.

“Half to half. No mistakes. Perfect touch. I had never seen anything like it. I was just thinking: Oh my God.

“If I saw it right now, today, I would still be thinking: Oh my God. It didn’t even make sense. It was a glitch. Thiago is a glitch.”

Recently, Cody Gakpo named Thiago as the best player he’s ever played with, which is further proof that a lot of his former teammates hold him in high regard.

What’s happening with Thiago after Liverpool departure?

Thiago left Liverpool at the end of last season along with Jurgen Klopp and Joel Matip, bringing to an end an injury-laden four-year spell at Anfield.

Shortly after his departure, he announced his retirement aged 33 and worked alongside Flick at Barcelona as one of his assistant coaches.

He left the Catalan giants after just a month and his next move remains unclear, but Liverpool fans will always have fond memories of Thiago as whenever he got on the pitch, he was truly on another level.
