Liverpool have always been a club where legends are made and revered long into the future.

From war-time heroes like Billy Liddell, right up to the modern-day Premier League and Champions League winners, it is a club packed full of icons.

Arguably the man who sits right at the top of that glittering list is Sir Kenny Dalglish.

‘King Kenny’ was a terrific player for Liverpool during the late 1970’s and 1980’s, before becoming one of the best manager’s in Reds’ history thereafter.

For many supporters, Dalglish is the best there ever was, the biggest of Liverpool legends.

In recent times, some fans have started to suggest that Mohamed Salah could snatch the Scotsman’s crown as the best to ever wear the famous red. Another great of the club, Ian Rush, has now weighed in on where he stands in that debate.

Ian Rush picks between Mo Salah and Kenny Dalglish

To supporters of a certain age, it will only ever be Dalglish as Liverpool’s best ever.

For the way he stood alongside the fanbase through the tragedies of Heysel and Hillsborough, Kenny stands out as a mountain of a man, as well as a superb player and coach.

A certain Mr Steven Gerrard also comes into this conversation, but for newer fans, Salah deserves to be right up there, too.

Asked about the Egyptian during an interview with TalkSPORT, Rush claimed that while he loves Salah as a player, no one can match his former teammate Dalglish.

“He’s looking after my [goalscoring] record,” said Liverpool’s all-time top scorer on Salah. “He always says to me, he says I counted my goals in training! That’s what he always says. But he’s a joy to watch and whatever happens [in the future] happens.

“For me, Kenny Dalglish is the greatest player Liverpool have ever seen, he’s something special. People talk about just the Premier League, when they talk about individuals they just talk about the Premier League.

“When you talk about clubs you talks about when it’s established, so it’s from 1892, that’s when you’re looking at,” Rush adds. “Mo Salah is for me the best Premier League player Liverpool have had, but the best Liverpool player in my opinion is Kenny Dalglish.”

Mohamed Salah vs Kenny Dalglish

In our own humble opinion, Gerrard is the best Liverpool player of all time. Any which way you look at it, the Scouser is the one for us.

Nevertheless Dalglish has to be a close second, with common consensus suggesting that Salah is in and around the top three.

In terms of goal scoring, the current No.11 has already surpassed Daglish comfortably.

However, if legendary status were based on goal-getting alone, then Rush would be far and away the best there ever was, even if he did count his goals in training.

Other, sometimes intangible factors come into play and while Salah is still writing his legacy and will forever be an icon at Anfield, we’re not sure he could ever truly surpass the King.
