Luis Diaz started for Colombia as they suffered a 3-2 loss against Uruguay in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form this season and came up against Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez, who led the line for Uruguay.
Nunez was praised for his energetic display against Colombia despite not getting a goal or an assist.
However, it wasn’t a memorable night for Diaz as his team fell to a last-gasp defeat in stoppage time.

Arne Slot praised Diaz for his recent showings against Liverpool, with the Colombian already scoring nine times across all competitions for the Reds this season.
However, he endured an off night on the international stage as Uruguay largely kept him at bay.
Starting in attack alongside Jhon Duran and Juan Quintero – who was one of the best players on the pitch – Diaz endured a quiet game and failed to make much of an impact.
Despite his lukewarm showing, Colombia looked like they’d snatch a point, but Manuel Ugarte scored for the home side in the 11th minute of stoppage time to win the game for his side.
El Heraldo gave Diaz a rating of five out of ten for his performance as he was largely anonymous against Uruguay.
They wrote: “He was not at his best. Discreet on his side, only winning in some individual duels. He looked tired.”
Diaz is arguably playing the best football of his career since joining Liverpool for £37m in January 2022, so the Reds and Colombia will look to brush off his display against Uruguay as a one-off.
