Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah reveals private advice from legendary former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Mohamed Salah’s consistency since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017 is almost unheard of in the Premier League era.

The Egyptian hasn’t ever played fewer than 32 league games at Anfield and his tally of 18 Premier League goals last season represents his lowest-ever, a stat that just goes to show how much better he has been than the rest of his peers.

Salah has had the privilege of playing under Jurgen Klopp and Luciano Spalletti, among others, while his exploits under Arne Slot so far show that he’s relished working with the Dutchman.

The Egyptian is always looking for ways to improve his game and shed some interesting insight on a conversation he had with Arsene Wenger back in 2020.

Liverpool were gunning for the Premier League title in 2020 and Wenger visited Melwood – the Reds’ training ground at the time – to have a chat with Klopp, which is when he is likely to have crossed paths with Salah as well.

The Egyptian used that as an opportunity to pick Wenger’s mind as he shed light on a conversation he had with the former Arsenal boss.

“I got advice from Arsene Wenger once – he was in Melwood at the time,” said Salah in a Liverpool roundtable alongside Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker.

“I asked him what the difference is between a good player and a really, really good player.

“He said the very very good players are always focused on the game even if they don’t have the momentum. They stay in the game until the whistle.”

Salah has definitely taken on Wenger’s advice

This season, Salah’s numbers are absolutely fantastic, but anyone who watched every Liverpool game will agree that it hasn’t been easy for him.

The Egyptian has struggled against certain teams – as was the case against Brighton a couple of weeks ago – but he kept his head up and continued going as he scored a fantastic winner in the second half.

Salah now has ten goals and assists apiece in all competitions for Liverpool this season, which highlights his unique ability to score goals as well as create them in equal measure.
