Things could hardly be better for Liverpool as the final international break of 2024 arrives.

The Reds took advantage of another Manchester City loss on Saturday to move five points clear at the top of the table.

Now able to look down on the rest of the Premier League from a comfortable height, its’ going to be a relaxing couple of weeks for Liverpool supporters.

Once the action returns, things will quickly ramp up again, though.

After facing Southampton at St Mary’s, Liverpool then have an enormous Anfield double-header against Real Madrid and Man City.

After spending more than a month on the side lines, Alisson Becker will be desperate to be involved for those two huge matches. And a Monday update from the Brazilian could suggest that he may well make it in time.

Alisson hints at injury progress

That Liverpool have not missed Alisson during the seven games he’s sat out of so far is the absolute biggest compliment you can give to Caoimhin Kelleher.

Kelleher was superb once again on Saturday as he ensured another clean sheet against Aston Villa.

The Irishman has strengthened his already highly credible claim to be the best back-up goalkeeper in world football.

But when he comes back, Alisson will rightfully walk straight back into the team.

It was initially expected that Alisson would miss seven games following the October international break.

With those seven fixtures now completed, the 32-year-old has taken to his Instagram stories to post a smiling picture in full kit at the Liverpool training ground in the gym on Monday.

A “-1” caption along with a sand timer emoji suggest that Alisson is very much closing in on a return. Later in the day, the official Liverpool X account reposted the goalie’s photo, giving it the official stamp of approval.

Will Alisson be fit to face Real Madrid?

While no Liverpool supporter will be worried at the prospect of Kelleher facing Real and City, it would be such a boost to have Alisson back.

The Brazil international is still rightly seen as one of the very best in the business.

With Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk in such strong form already, the return of the main man behind them is likely to push them on to even greater heights.

So far, though, there is no clear indication as to whether Alisson is expected to back for the Madrid game on November the 27th.

This certainly looks promising, but we’ll await further updates before making any predictions.
