Lineker questions if Salah is still underrated after latest Liverpool heroics

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the pundit noted if Salah is still going under the radar in regards to being considered one of the best players in the world after the winger’s Man of the Match performance for Liverpool against Villa.

Salah assisted Nunez’s opener and then wrapped up the three points with a trademark goal in the second-half, and for Lineker, the Egyptian international still isn’t getting the recognition he deserves after all these years of performing at the highest level.

Lineker said: “I wonder whether he gets absolutely the credit he deserves universally. If you think last season, he wasn’t one of the nominations for Player of the Year, I think in the Ballon d’Or he didn’t even get on the long list. For me, he is so consistent.

“I mean, he has quiet days, but even then he will do something. Yesterday he did the assist for the first goal and then, of course, he got that vital second goal on the counter-attacking. Brilliant finish as well. He is something else, isn’t it? I don’t want to tempt fate, but he is so rarely injured. He is constantly, constantly a thorn in the opposition’s side.”

Salah should be in the conversation for the best in the world

With Salah already in double digits for goals and assists this season, the Liverpool winger should rightfully be in the conversation for the best player in the world after his incredible start to the new campaign.

The 32-year-old attacker has been as influential as ever for the Reds, with Liverpool fans unveiling a banner aimed at FSG to hand Salah a new contract as the forward looks likely to leave as a free-agent at the end of this season.

Indeed, Salah has been one of the best players in the world since moving to Liverpool in 2017 for £34m, and the Egypt international should receive more credit for his incredible accomplishments in recent years on Anfield.
