What Bayern Munich really think about signing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk next year

Liverpool face something of a crisis next summer with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all due to become free-agents.

The Anfield trio all see their contracts come to an end next year, with Alexander-Arnold strongly rumoured with a move to Real Madrid whilst Saudi Arabian clubs continue to eye Salah and Van Dijk.

Given how important all three players are for Liverpool, the thought of Arne Slot’s side losing Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk would be nothing short of disastrous given that many fans and pundits would consider the Anfield trio world-class players.

And Bayern Munich have seemingly set the record straight on if they’re interested in Van Dijk.

Bayern Munich unlikely to move for Van Dijk despite rumours

According to journalist Christian Falk, the Bundesliga giants are not considering a move for Van Dijk, with Bayern looking to lower the average age of the squad next summer as well as signing players who have pace.

Although Van Dijk was praised by Neil Mellor as ‘magnificent’ earlier this season, the Dutch international is not as fast as he used to be during his peak years with Liverpool, though the defender is still rightfully regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

With Van Dijk recently updating Liverpool fans about his contract situation, each day that passes with no credible news will only add to the pressure that the 33-year-old defender will be leaving Anfield next year alongside Alexander-Arnold and Salah.

Yet with Bayern not interested in signing Van Dijk, there’s a real chance that Liverpool could now be closing in on a new deal for their captain, who is too good to be allowed to leave at this stage in his career.

Where is Van Dijk most likey to end up next summer?

With nearly six months left on his current deal and the January transfer window almost upon us, Liverpool fans will rightfully be worried about where Van Dijk could end up next summer.

Although Bayern are no longer in the equation, Saudi Arabia remains a real possibility for Van Dijk, with the Middle Eastern state likely to spend big next summer with Salah already a huge target for the Saudi Pro League.

Yet given the lack of real overall quality in the league, Liverpool could end up retaining Van Dijk’s services for a few more years, with the defender still good enough to play at the highest level with the Anfield giants.
