Liverpool secured a huge 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, yet the result saw Ibrahima Konate come off with an injury.

The France international was brought off at the break with Konate seemingly picking up an arm injury after falling awkwardly in the first-half, with Joe Gomez replacing the Liverpool defender and performing well for the Reds.

With Virgil van Dijk sending a message to Konate after the game, it’s been a nervous wait for news on how badly injured the Liverpool centre-back’s arm is, especially with Bayer Leverkusen coming up midweek for the Anfield side.

And Konate has now shared an update himself on social media.

Konate confirms arm injury ‘isn’t serious’ after Liverpool worry

Taking to Instagram, Konate confirmed that his arm injury is not serious, with the defender posting a picture of him in the Liverpool medical room with his left arm in a protective sling.

Konate posted: “Thanks for all the messages of support. My injury isn’t serious thankfully. I had a scan today and it confirmed there is no break. I’ll be ready for the next game.”

With Gomez performing as well as he did on Saturday against Brighton, there might be a real temptation from Slot to rest Konate fully with Aston Villa coming up next weekend for the Reds in the Premier League.

And with Konate publically saying he is felling better and the injury isn’t serious, giving the defender the game off against Leverkusen could be smart squad management from Liverpool considering how important this week is in Europe and in the league.

Liverpool will be thankful that Konate’s injury is not major

With just four senior centre-backs, losing a player like Konate would have been a major blow for Liverpool heading into such an important part of the season, with the Premier League title on the line and the Reds flying in Europe.

And as per Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League fixtures, there is simply no wiggle room for a player like Konate to pick up a major injury, with Villa, Manchester City and Everton all coming up for the Anfield side in the coming weeks.

Indeed, Liverpool’s squad size means any injury to any first-team player is huge, and Konate avoiding a big blow will be a relief for Slot and his coaching staff heading into November and the winter schedule.
