Liverpool are ‘all over’ £84m forward who they could sign instead of Omar Marmoush

Liverpool look likely to be in the market for a new forward next summer.

The Reds have revamped their attack a number of times over recent years, adding four big players since January 2022.

However, Liverpool are dealing with the fact that they may lose Mohamed Salah at the end of the current season. Salah’s output at Anfield is such that he is virtually irreplaceable.

But Liverpool are going to have to try anyway and, as a result, the Reds have been linked with all manner of forwards as we approach the January transfer window.

One of those most heavily linked with Liverpool has been Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush. There have even been claims that the Reds have already begun negotiations with Marmoush’s agents.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, however, there is another player or two who are likely to be higher on Liverpool’s shortlist.

Liverpool ‘all over’ Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Marmoush has been one of the most in-form attackers in Europe during the early part of this season.

The Egypt international has 11 goals and seven assists across 13 appearances for Eintracht.

Nevertheless, speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, transfer expert Bailey suggests that despite the strength of Marmoush’s links to Liverpool, the Reds would still likely prefer to go for a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia or a Nico Williams if the opportunity arises.

“Liverpool have looked at him, clearly he’s on fire this season with Frankfurt but I don’t think it’s as far along as some are claiming,” says the reporter.

“I’ve heard some people say it’s virtually a done deal, I don’t think that’s the case at all. Liverpool have got a lot of irons in the fire when it comes to that right side, I think Marmoush is someone they’ve looked at but I’d be reticent to say he’s their first choice.

“When you’ve got the likes of possibly Kvaratskhelia on the market, let’s not forget that Liverpool have just brought in the second best Georgian player. Liverpool are all over Kvaratskhelia, they know about the situation, there might be a chance of getting him next summer,” Bailey adds.

“Nico Williams might be on the market. I just think there are options out there that are distinctly more ‘Liverpool’ than Marmoush is.”

Omar Marmoush vs Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

When it comes to replacing Salah at Liverpool, neither Marmoush or Kvaratskhelia would be natural fits because both a right-footed.

Perhaps that will not be a pre-requisite for Liverpool, though, and they may yet simply decide to go for the best wide forward option they can find.

If that is the case, then we’d suggest that Kvaratskhelia is clearly the better of these two players.

It’s true that Marmoush has both out-scored (11-5) and out-assisted (7-2) the Georgian this season so far, but Kvaratskhelia is younger (23 vs 25), is Champions League proven and has been key to a league title win with Napoli.

With a reported price-tag of around £84m, Kvaratskhelia would also be far more expensive. But, if Liverpool are to replace Salah effectively then they need to go all out. ‘Kvaradona’ would be our pick, too.
