Friday marks the two-month countdown to the start of the January transfer window for Liverpool.

It comes as almost the exact half-point between the summer window closing and the winter one flying open.

As a result, some conclusions can start to be drawn from what happened prior to the season at Liverpool and what may need to be done at its mid-point.

For the Reds, they barely did any work at all over the summer. Despite the clear need for some upgrades to the Liverpool squad, it was decided that only Federico Chiesa would be added.

With Chiesa struggling with injury ever since his arrival, Liverpool’s strategy has been shown up as one that did not do nearly enough.

And as the January market speeds into view, it sounds like the Reds are ramping up efforts to put that right.

Liverpool firm up Omar Marmoush interest

If Liverpool are to add to their team in the New Year, most supporters would likely want that to be with a new midfielder.

The Reds still look light in the middle of the pitch after losing out on Martin Zubimendi and claims that Aurelien Tchouameni could be on Liverpool’s radar again have started to surface.

As we wait to see whether those suggestions become clearer, though, Liverpool have been heavily linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush has been having a ‘fantastic’ time at Eintracht. But as another forward, he is perhaps not exactly what the Reds need right now.

Nevertheless, according to German outlet SportBILD, Liverpool have now ‘officially deposited their interest’ with the Egyptian’s agents.

The Reds were already said to have been watching Marmoush over the summer but reportedly decided that another forward was not a priority.

That is now claimed to have changed as Liverpool prepare for the potential of life after Mohamed Salah.

Omar Marmoush learns from Antony

Interestingly, SportBILD also claim that Marmoush’s improvement in finishing this season is down to the help of Man United winger Antony.

Antony has been an incredible flop since arriving at United for an enormous fee in 2022.

But according to the German paper, Eintracht coaches watched videos of Antony and showed them to Marmoush in an attempt to improve his shooting towards the far post.

So far, it has obviously been working. However, BILD’s reported value of Marmoush – around £34m – is less than half what Antony ultimately cost United.

They do suggest that this price could still rise if the 25-year-old continues his Antony inspired form, though.
