Liverpool endured a quiet summer transfer window as Arne Slot opted to place faith in the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.
After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, Federico Chiesa was the only player who walked through the door, although they did agree a deal in principle to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool usually keep their cards close to their chest in terms of transfer market dealings, but if reports are to be believed, they are keeping a close eye on a Premier League midfielder.
Liverpool hold ‘long-standing’ interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba

Carlos Baleba joined Brighton & Hove Albion last summer as a replacement for Moises Caicedo, who rejected a move to Anfield in favour of Chelsea.
Roberto de Zerbi hailed Baleba as an ‘incredible’ talent and the ‘future’ of Brighton at a press conference last season, but the young midfielder blew hot and cold under the Italian.
However, he has been in fine form under new manager Fabian Hurzeler which has led to interest from a host of top clubs.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Liverpool hold a ‘long-standing’ interest in the exciting midfielder, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping tabs on him.
Over the years, Brighton haven’t refrained from parting with their prized assets for top dollar and a similar situation could be in the offing for Baleba, although the report states that the Seagulls are under no financial pressure to sell just yet.
Baleba’s stats this season
The 20-year-old has featured in every game this season under Hurzeler and impressed with his all-action ability, notching up two goals and assists apiece while also keeping things ticking in the centre of the park.
| Carlos Baleba 2024-25 stats | Apps | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards | Mins played |
| Premier League | 8 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 574′ |
| EFL Cup | 2 | 1 | 1 | – | 153′ |
Liverpool were linked with a move for Baleba last year before his transfer to Brighton, so their interest definitely appears to be long-standing.
However, it remains to be seen if the Reds press ahead with their interest as the midfielder continues to deliver eye-catching displays in the Premier League.
