Liverpool endured a quiet summer transfer window as Arne Slot stuck to his guns and refrained from making wholesale changes to the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.
Federico Chiesa was the only addition to the squad in the summer, although the Reds agreed a deal in principle to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in July 2025.
Liverpool were in the market for a midfielder but didn’t manage to get one as Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield to stay at his boyhood club.
There have been suggestions that the Reds could return for Zubimendi in the future, but another midfielder has been tipped to make the switch to the Reds at some point in the future.
Morten Hjulmand tipped for future Liverpool transfer
Morten Hjulmand’s numbers matched up quite well to that of Jude Bellingham when the Reds missed out on the latter last summer.
Since then, he has moved to Sporting CP in Portugal and become a key player for Ruben Amorim, also establishing himself as an important member of the Danish national team.
And Denmark’s new head coach Brian Riemer believes the 25-year-old is a complete midfielder as he tipped him for a move to Anfield – or one of the other top-six sides in the Premier League – in the future.
“I spent two years in the Premier League and I think he has the necessary qualities to play for the six/seven best clubs in the English league,” said Riemer as quoted by O Jogo.
“Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City – at a certain point in his career, I believe he will arrive at one of these teams.”
Riemer hailed Hjulmand’s ‘rare’ skillset and believes the Dane has only scratched the surface in terms of fulfilling his outrageous potential.
“His character, his leadership, his personality, and his communication are not very common in today’s football, and I was at many clubs, in Copenhagen, Brentford, and Anderlecht.
“It reminds us of the defensive midfielders of the past, who controlled the entire game, who led the teams, you don’t see that much nowadays.
“It’s something rare what Hjulmand has. I’m a big fan of his, I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with Hjulmand.”

After Klopp’s departure was confirmed, Amorim was one of the candidates Liverpool considered as his successor.
At the time, there were reports that Hjulmand could follow Amorim to Liverpool, although neither the player nor the manager ended up making the move to Anfield.
If the Dane continues developing in the same trajectory, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him crop up on Liverpool’s radar as they continue to be on the lookout for reinforcements.
