Liverpool have usually walked away second best when it comes to taking on Real Madrid.
The Reds have a disappointing recent record against the European champions, failing to beat them in each of the last eight matches, losing seven.
It has been a similar story when the two clubs have gone head-to-head in the transfer market, too.
Jude Bellingham opted to join Madrid instead of Liverpool in 2023 and the Englishman is the the most high-profile example of the pull the La Liga giants have over the Reds.
Another, smaller case in point is that of Arda Guler, the Turkish youngster. Guler was tracked by Liverpool before deciding he only wanted Real last summer.
Since arriving in the Spanish capital for around £25m, though, things have not gone especially smoothly for the 19-year-old. And having seen him play just 26 times for Los Blancos, Liverpool reportedly have not yet given up hope of signing Guler.

Liverpool still interested in Arda Guler
Guler has only featured for 250 minutes across seven games in La Liga so far this season
The teenager clearly has some incredibly harsh competition for places at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Real’s stacked forward line possibly the strongest in world football.
While it is no disgrace for Guler to lose out to Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jnr or Rodrygo Goes, however, he would plainly like to be playing a little more than he is.
And according to Caught Offside, this dissatisfaction has led to Liverpool’s interest in Guler lingering.

They claim that the Reds are ‘still keen’ on potentially signing the former Fenerbahce talent if he becomes available for transfer.
Liverpool were reportedly scouting Guler at Euro 2024 and although Real Madrid are said to have seen him as being ‘untouchable’ over the summer, the Reds interest is still claimed to be there.
Arsenal are also reported to be in the mix as well, with both clubs ready to pounce if Guler’s lack of playing time sees him become available on the market.
Liverpool right to track Arda Guler situation
Liverpool will have to do some forward planning with their attack next summer whether Mohamed Salah stays or not.
If Salah goes, then he’ll obviously need replacing. If he does not, then it won’t be too long before his eventual exit anyway.
With that in mind, Guler looks like a smart player for Liverpool to keep tracking. Luka Modric has deemed Guler to be a ‘great talent‘ having seen him up close at Real and also claimed that he ‘loves’ the way the youngster plays.
And Guler could certainly fill the gap on Liverpool’s right while also potentially giving Arne Slot another option in the No.10 position, too.
At 19 he has years ahead of him to grow into, but if he’s in a rush to get more football and leave Real, then Liverpool are right to position themselves at the front of the queue.
