Liverpool’s defensive record has been exceptional since Arne Slot’s appointment, with Kostas Tsimikas one of the big winners from the change.

The Greece international has been a regular fixture for the new Liverpool coach with Tsimikas proving to be an exceptional backup option for Andy Robertson, who this season has been hampered by injuries and fitness issues.

With Cody Gakpo saying he’s forming a good partnership with Tsimikas, the 28-year-old left-back is enjoying some of the best football of his Liverpool career, with the defender winning the official Man of the Match award in last night’s UEFA Champions League win against RB Leipzig.

And Tsimikas has now shared what Slot is telling his Liverpool defenders to do in every game.

Liverpool told to defend as a unit as a whole team

Speaking to the press after last night’s win in Germany, Tsimikas shared how Slot has instructed the Liverpool squad to defend as a unit rather as individuals, with the Reds’ defensive record this season showing that the tactic is working.

Tsmikas said: “I think we defend all together. One of the goals of the new manager is he asks us to defend all together as a unit, as a team. So I think that is the important thing. We don’t want to concede. Every game we all defend together and that is what we want to see.”

As per Liverpool stats this season, Slot’s defensive tactics have been quite the revelation for the Reds, who with five goals conceded this season in all competitions makes the Anfield side one of the hardest teams in Europe to break down.

And with Slot getting a tune out of every defender this season, the likes of Tsimikas are thriving as a result, with the Greek international looking exceptional whenever covering for Robertson at left-back.

Slot is building a new dynasty at Liverpool

Few would have expected Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp as well as he has this season, and early signs suggest that the Reds are going to become one of the hardest teams in Europe to beat for many years to come.

Top of the Premier League and in the driving seat for a top-eight Champions League finish, Liverpool are looking exceptional this season, with Slot’s tactical innovations a key reason behind the Anfield side’s incredible form.

And Liverpool could see a new dynasty being formed with Slot at the helm, with the Dutch coach showing he has what it takes to push the Merseyside giants to a new level after Klopp.
