Liverpool once again proved their title credentials under Arne Slot as they overcame Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League.

Anfield hosted the meeting between Liverpool and Chelsea, with Slot going head-to-head with Enzo Maresca in the dugout.

Virgil van Dijk anticipated a tough match, and that was certainly the case in an exciting battle on Merseyside.

But it was Slot who came out on top, with Liverpool top of the table after seven wins and one loss from their eight matches so far.

Liverpool did lose Diogo Jota to injury, in what was the only real worry for the Reds on an otherwise memorable match at Anfield.

Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah were the stars for the hosts, with the duo each grabbing a goal and an assist.

And the pair certainly caught the eye of former Liverpool goalkeeper David James, who said on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: “I thought Curtis Jones was sensational.

Liverpool and Chelsea have played out countless memorable clashes over the years, and their latest meeting at Anfield can now be added to that list.

Salah fired the home side ahead from the spot, but his effort was cancelled out by Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

Their displays will have delighted Slot, who continues to pass each test that he has faced at Liverpool, apart from the defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.

But he will be well aware that firstly it is very early days in his tenure, and secondly things are only going to get more difficult ahead of an extremely busy and tricky schedule.

Before October comes to an end, the Reds face three successive away matches against RB Leipzig, Arsenal and Brighton.
