There has, however, been a breakthrough with another important player, with youngster Trey Nyoni signing his first professional contract with the Reds.
Liverpool fans labelled Nyoni ‘special’ in pre-season, with the 17-year-old now confirming his first deal on Instagram with the words: “First professional contract.”

And it has certainly excited many Anfield players, with Ibrahima Konate commenting: “Okeyyyyyyyyyyy,” as Jayden Danns and James McConnell replied with raised hands and clapping hands emojis respectively.
Other Reds players such as Van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister meanwhile liked the image of Nyoni signing his new contract.
What role will Trey Nyoni play under Arne Slot?
Nyoni made his only senior Liverpool appearance to date in last season’s FA Cup, appearing as a substitute in the fifth-round win over Southampton.
The midfielder was aged just 16 at the time of his debut, and has gone on to shine for the club’s Under-21s this season.
He will have undoubtedly learned a lot from pre-season under Slot, where he scored in the friendly clash with Sevilla at Anfield.

And the 17-year-old, who made the switch from Leicester City in 2023, is very likely to feature under the new boss in the coming months.
Nyoni, who can play centrally or out wide, is a regular for the Under-21s, but was named on the bench by Slot for the clash with Bologna earlier this month.
