Liverpool had a quiet summer transfer window, with the Reds not seeing too many key departures or major signings.

Having Liverpool failing to sign Martin Zubimendi, the Reds ended the window with two first-team additions in Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa, with the former returning to Valencia on loan for the season.

Another player who left Anfield on loan was Luca Stephenson, who joined Dundee United for the season as Liverpool also allowed the likes of Ben Doak, Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsay to leave Anfield for the year.

Yet Stephenson has now praised one player who Liverpool ended up selling this off-season.

Luca Stephenson floored by ‘outrageous’ Fabio Carvalho in Liverpool training

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the 21-year-old defender shared how impressed he was with Fabio Carvalho in training before the Portuguese youth international was sold to Premier League side Brentford.

Some Liverpool fans were angry with Carvalho’s move to Brentford, yet the forward was seemingly ready for regular Premier League football, with Stephenson saying: “Who was the most difficult opponent in training? Most to be fair, if I’m being honest!

“The quality in the first team is outrageous really, isn’t it? You train against Luis Diaz, Fabio Carvalho was still there, those players were playing down the left and are running at you in training… I would look forward to it but think: ‘Jeez, this is going to be a hard session!’.

“But it stands you in good stead because now I’m thinking if I can get through a 90-minute in-house game against Luis Diaz, then I can have full confidence playing against anybody as he’s one of the best wingers in the world.”

How has Fabio Carvalho performed since joining Brentford?

Carvalho is yet to fully establish himself as a member of Thomas Frank’s main starting XI, with the former Liverpool man still learning the ropes of how to play the Brentford way this summer.

Yet as seen from the stats below, Carvalho has impressed whenever given the chance to play a few minutes from the bench, with the winger managing five goal contributions already for Brentford.

With Liverpool recouping as much as £27m for Carvalho, the Reds will not be mad with the financial outcome of the youngster’s move to Brentford, and the former Fulham man seems to be finding his feet in the Premier League at long last.
