Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota started in attack for Portugal as they played out a drab 0-0 draw against Scotland in the UEFA Nations League.

Having come off the bench in the previous game against Poland, Jota played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Francisco Conceicao in attack but was unable to make an impact in the game.

Portugal flattered to deceive as a unit last night, but the 27-year-old didn’t cover himself in too much glory with his performance as he came under criticism from the local media.

Jota was preferred to Rafael Leao for this game but didn’t justify his selection as he was unable to get the better of Scotland right-back Anthony Ralston.

Portuguese outlet ZeroZero rated his performance 4/10, although they didn’t go into detail on his performance.

A Bola, on the other hand, felt he lacked the spark Portugal desperately craved on the night as he made way for Leao in the second half.

“Without any spark and without the ability to set the Scotland area alight. He came off shortly after the hour mark to make way for Rafael Leão and the impression is that it was too late.”

Jota’s stats vs Scotland

Jota had 19 touches of the ball and made just five passes, which is a damning stat that proves he wasn’t involved in the game at all.

He had one shot on target and didn’t complete a single dribble in the game as he was withdrawn for Leao, who is one of the best ball carriers in world football currently.

The 27-year-old lost possession five times and was also booked as he finished the game with a Sofascore rating of 6.7, making him the worst-rated Portugal player on the pitch.

The £41m Liverpool man will look to brush off his performance against Scotland as a one-off and look to get his name on the scoresheet as the Reds prepare to lock horns with Chelsea at Anfield this weekend.
