Liverpool’s transfer business could certainly be very interesting in 2025.
The Reds kept their powder dry for the most part in 2024, signing only one new player to the first-team squad throughout the calendar year.
However, next year could look very different. Not only will Liverpool see the arrival of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer, but they could be needing to replace three of their biggest stars, too.
So far, there are no positive updates to be had on the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mohamed Salah.
Although there are replacements available for each player to a degree within the Liverpool squad, chances are that all of three of them would need a new signing to really succeed them.
With that in mind, the Reds could just have been given a very interesting update on a potential Salah replacement.

Omar Marmoush hesitating over new contract
It depends on who you ask as to which Liverpool player will be the most difficult to replace should they all leave.
Each offers something unique to the team and all three are certain to go down as Liverpool legends, whichever way the contract talks go. But it is clear that in terms of tangible output, Salah will be the hardest one for the Reds to get right.
The Egyptian has been Liverpool’s top scorer for each of his seven seasons at Anfield and is usually right up there in terms of assists as well.
Still, the Reds might have to deal with the reality that they’re going to have to find someone who can do something close to what Salah has given them.
In that respect, Liverpool have been linked with Omar Marmoush, the current Bundesliga top scorer and Salah’s teammate with the Egypt national team.

And according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, although Eintracht Frankfurt are keen to reward Marmoush’s current, brilliant form, the 25-year-old is ‘hesitating’ to sign a new contract.
“Understand that Eintracht Frankfurt want to extend the contract of Omar Marmoush until 2028 with a higher salary as via BILD,” says Plettenberg. “But currently, the 25 y/o top striker is hesitating to accept this new offer.
“Unless something extraordinary happens or a top club makes an offer, he is expected to stay in winter after a perfect start with 8 goals and 4 assists this Bundesliga season.
“Contract valid until 2027, with no release clause included,” adds the reporter. “Marmoush has drawn interest from the Premier League.”
Omar Marmoush is a real option for Liverpool
Liverpool were linked with Marmoush as recently as Monday, with the Reds said to have been impressed by his flying start to the season.
Back in the summer, there were suggestions that Marmoush could cost around £52m to prise away from Eintracht.
Although that is a relatively hefty fee, it is also very much within a price range Liverpool could afford.
Should Marmoush continue his stunning goal scoring – and assisting – form in Germany, then the feeling that he could be a natural heir to Salah’s throne may start to grow.
At the very least Marmoush is someone to keep an eye on for Liverpool. He is clearly aware that there may be a move on the horizon for him and the chance to follow in Salah’s footsteps would surely be an appealing one for the player.
