Liverpool sit pretty at the top of the Premier League table thanks to their narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Virgil van Dijk was left impressed by Diogo Jota at Selhurst Park, with the Liverpool attacker scoring the only goal of the game.

But Liverpool captain Van Dijk also impressed, with the centre-back helping clinch another clean sheet under Arne Slot.

The Reds have been superb at the back under the Dutchman, helping them to a one-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

It could, however, have been a different story at Palace had been awarded a penalty after an altercation between Van Dijk and Marc Guehi.

Richard Keys fumes over Virgil van Dijk incident in Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Eagles manager Oliver Glasner was adamant his side should have been given a spot-kick when the away captain pulled back Guehi inside the box, but the officials disagreed.

Richard Keys has, however, taken the side of Glasner, writing in his latest blog: “Arsenal should’ve had a pen first-half when [Kai] Havertz was wrestled to the ground v Saints.

“Palace should’ve had one v Liverpool when Van Dijk pulled Guehi back. No foul said the PGMOL’s Matchday centre, claiming Van Dijk let go quickly. Really? How come [Christian] Eriksen was booked for an exact same offence in the opening five minutes at [Aston] Villa then?”

Arne Slot grinds out another important Liverpool win

Glasner will still be furious about the lack of action from the match officials at Selhurst Park, but Slot will have already moved on from the incident.

The same can be said of captain Van Dijk, who has left Anfield to link up with his Netherlands teammates for the latest international break.

It was a narrow victory for Liverpool, but again it represented an important test passed by Slot and his players.

Palace certainly made it difficult for the visitors at Selhurst Park, but the Reds ultimately got the job done thanks to Jota’s superb ninth-minute strike.

Slot hasn’t had the trickiest of starts to life at Anfield, but fans will not be complaining as long he keeps grinding out results.
