Troy Deeney says Liverpool star looks ‘more confident’ than ever after Crystal Palace win

Liverpool made it nine wins from ten this season under Arne Slot with a tough 1-0 result on Saturday against Crystal Palace.

Diogo Jota’s early goal was all it took for the Reds to secure the three points against the Eagles, with Liverpool losing Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister to injury in what was an old-fashioned showing at Selhurst Park.

Despite these fitness issues, the result once again showed how much certain Liverpool players have improved under Arne Slot, with Peter Crouch hailing Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo after the Reds’ win on Saturday.

And Troy Deeney has now said Slot has made another Liverpool player look more confident than ever.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hailed after ‘comfortable’ Liverpool display vs Crystal Palace

Writing for BBC Sport, the pundit lauded Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Palace, with Deeney praising the Liverpool defender for keeping a clean sheet and for his passing game in south London.

Alexander-Arnold has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, with right-back putting his poor performance at Euro 2024 behind him and once again establishing himself as one of the best fullbacks in world football.

And Deeney now thinks Alexander-Arnold is playing with more confidence than ever before, with the former Premier League captain writing: “Another clean sheet for Liverpool. I don’t think that is being spoken about enough.

“Some of the passes he played in the win at Crystal Palace with the outside of his foot were easy on the eye, like the one he played to Mohamed Salah to set him away. He just looks more comfortable and more confident.”

Alexander-Arnold is now back to his best for Liverpool

Heading into this season, Alexander-Arnold had been in a weird place for the past 18 months for club and country, with the defender showing glimpses of his world-class quality yet struggling to maintain consistent enough form that had made the fullback one of the best in his position.

Yet this season has already shown that Alexander-Arnold is not only back to his best but potentially playing above another level what Liverpool fans were used to when the defender was at his absolute prime under Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold’s passing, defending and involvement at Liverpool has never looked better, and the Reds being top of the Premier League can be put down to the 25-year-old hitting his best form ever for the Anfield side.
