Alisson Becker caught on camera giving rousing half-time team talk during Liverpool vs Bologna

Liverpool were not at their best during the midweek win over Bologna at Anfield.

The Reds eventually emerged victorious against the Italian side, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah either side of half-time doing the damage.

But, as you’d expect them to have to in the Champions League, Liverpool were made to work for their three points.

There was a period not long before the half-time break where the Reds really looked as though they would relinquish their lead.

Bologna hit the bar, the post and only an excellent stop from Alisson Becker prevented Kacper Urbanski from levelling things up.

Thankfully, Liverpool steadied things at the break and came out better for it. Arne Slot takes credit for that of course, but as new footage from the game has emerged, it seems that Alisson does as well.

Alisson Becker captured making half-time speech

After shaking off a small injury knock in September, Alisson is back and looking just as good as ever.

The Brazilian celebrated his 32nd birthday on the day of the game against Bologna and is now one of the most experienced players in the Liverpool squad.

Alisson spoke about being part of Liverpool’s leadership group in the days leading up to the match and this is obviously a responsibility that the goalkeeper takes seriously.

Nevertheless, fans may have expected to see captain Virgil van Dijk or vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold doing the speeches at Anfield.

But with the pair elsewhere, the LFCTV cameras caught Alisson delivering a rousing address to his teammates in the tunnel before they headed out for the second-half.

“Come on boys, quick start yeah?” says the No.1 as Mac Allister, Salah, Luis Diaz, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Andy Robertson listen in.

“Don’t get frustrated, keep on going, keep on going. Strong mentality now, time for strong mentality. Win the challenges, fight for the ball.”

Alisson underlines his importance

This is really pleasing to see from Alisson. There have been question marks about his Liverpool future for a little while now, but he is obviously very happy at Anfield.

Now one of the real core group of leaders in the team along with Van Dijk, Trent, Salah and Robertson, it is important that Alisson steps up.

It is also worth saying that the goalie and Robertson are the only two players within that group who look relatively sure of being at the club next season.

Mac Allister looks like Liverpool captain material, but should the worst come to the worse and Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah leave, then Alisson is probably in line to take the armband.

On this evidence, Liverpool would, as ever, be in very safe hands indeed with Alisson.
