Liverpool started well against Bologna during matchday two of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The Reds took three points on their first game back in Europe’s premier competition, securing an impressive 3-1 win over AC Milan in September.
And up against Italian opposition for the second time in a row, Liverpool started nicely at Anfield.
With the crowd revved up for Arne Slot’s first European home game in charge of the club, Liverpool started fast.
There was the early warning sign of old adversary Thijs Dalinga sticking the ball past Alisson Becker, but the Dutch striker was well offside.
Then, just after ten minutes, Mohamed Salah lofted an exquisite ball into the six-yard box and Alexis Mac Allister did the rest. It was a tidy little finish from Mac Allister, but according to former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, the goal was all about Salah.

Peter Crouch raves about Mohamed Salah assist
Salah was decidedly off his game against Wolves at the weekend. The Egyptian got his goal from the penalty spot, but he won’t have been happy with his overall display.
The main issue for Mo seemed to be his passing. He just couldn’t get his radar right.
One notable moment came when Liverpool charged forward for a three-on-one late counterattack. A simple ball to his left would have seen Curtis Jones through on goal.
For a player of Salah’s class, it should have been simple, but the 32-year-old under-hit it and Wolves cleaned up.

Perhaps with that in the back of his mind, Salah put things right early against Bologna. Having picked up the ball from Darwin Nunez, it was a quite delightful ball into the box that was just asking to be buried by Mac Allister.
And speaking at half-time on TNT Sports, Crouch raved about what he’d seen from Liverpool’s No.11.
“This ball from Salah was just absolutely magnificent,” said the pundit. “They were just moving it so quick, so sharp and Bologna couldn’t deal with it.
“But beautiful ball from Salah and Mac Allister with a good finish. If I was Diaz I’d be absolutely fuming at the back stick! He was there for a tap in.”
Mo Salah still not quite at his best
This was a real moment of class from Salah and it deservedly led to a goal. As Crouch says, there was no way Mac Allister could miss.
Nevertheless, the Egyptian King was still not quite all the way there against Bologna.
The one, wonderful pass aside, Salah was a little wayward with his passing in general at Anfield.
On a number of promising occasions, Mo seemed to either under-hit or over-hit the decisive ball. It just wasn’t quite clicking.
Even on a slightly off night, though, Salah tends to come up with the goods. His ball to open the scoring was the game’s outstanding bit of quality.
