Liverpool now sit top of the Premier League table under Arne Slot after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Wolves.

Ibrahima Kontate and Mohamed Salah grabbed the Liverpool goals at Molineux, with Rayan Ait-Nouri having scored for the hosts.

Michael Owen praised Konate following his latest display, with the centre-back having been pivotal at both ends of the pitch.

Wolves certainly made it hard for Slot and his players, but in the end the Reds had enough to come away with all three points.

The victory leaves Liverpool one point ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, with Gary O’Neil’s side rock bottom of the table.

Harvey Elliott messages Liverpool loanee Ben Doak

A draw for the defending champions at Newcastle United will have pleased Slot, while the manager may even had his highs on a match further down the football pyramid.

At Riverside Stadium, Liverpool loanee Ben Doak stole the show with a goal and Man of the Match award on his first Middlesbrough start in the Championship.

He took to Instagram to celebrate after the 2-0 win over Stoke City, writing: “First start in the league. Not a better feeling to top it off with a goal and MOTM. Support was top as per.”

And Liverpool duo Harvey Elliott and Jayden Danns were quick to comment, with the former writing: “Congratulations bro” and the latter writing: “Class.”

Ben Doak set for Liverpool return after Middlesbrough loan

Middlesbrough and Hull City both wanted Doak in the summer transfer window, with the former winning the battle.

Michael Carrick’s side have secured his services temporarily for the season, and things are certainly going well so far.

Having made cameos against Preston North End and Sunderland, Doak got the chance to shine from the start against Stoke.

Fortunately from a Liverpool perspective, it is only a loan move, with Doak set to return to Anfield and shine there in the near future.
