Liverpool are rolling along nicely this season after picking up another big win on Wednesday.
The Reds have started life under Arne Slot very well indeed. The Carabao Cup win over West Ham made it six victories from seven games in all competitions.
One thing that has really stood out about Liverpool in their games so far is just how much quality in depth they now have.
Jamie Carragher hailed Liverpool’s rotational options during the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham and it’s now clear that this Liverpool squad is one of the deepest we’ve ever seen.
Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement. Most specifically, Slot has been on the lookout for a new midfielder ever since he arrived in the summer.
Curtis Jones enjoyed himself against West Ham, while Wataru Endo and Tyler Morton showed that they can be options, too. But it now looks possible that Liverpool might have identified their next midfield signing.

Hugo Larsson could move in 2025
How he’s managed to tweak Liverpool’s midfield has been one of the most pleasing things about Slot’s time at Anfield so far.
The Dutchman is getting the most of out Ryan Gravenberch in a new, deeper lying role, while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been knitting things together brilliantly, too.
Nevertheless, while they may be able to get through the season with what they have, it’s clear that Slot wants another option moving forward.
Martin Zubimendi had been the first choice to be that player, but reports this week have suggested that Liverpool are targeting a £67m move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson instead.

At 20-years-old, Larsson is a huge talent and would be an exciting signing for the Reds. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is a real chance that the Sweden international could move next year.
“Hugo Larsson has been linked with a move away from Eintracht Frankfurt, and although it could happen in summer 2025, it’s not clear or definite yet,” Romano explained in his Daily Briefing on Thursday.
“That’s because Eintracht are very happy with Hugo and they want him to be an important face of their project.
“Interest is strong from several clubs,” notes the reporter. “But nothing is decided now or will be decided in few weeks or months. It’s a topic for the summer.”
Hugo Larsson is a real option for Liverpool
In terms of comparing Zubimendi and Larsson, they are really quite different profiles.
The Spaniard is a slightly diminutive, ball-playing defensive midfielder, while Larsson stands at over six feet tall and looks to be much more of a box-to-box type player.
In truth, we can see how either profile fits into this current Liverpool team. Larsson has a bit of Gravenberch about him, while Zubimendi is very similar to Mac Allister.
As Liverpool continue to search for the right midfielder to add in 2025, it seems very possible that Larsson could be a real option.
The Swede may cost a fair bit to get out of Frankfurt, but there is genuine reason to believe that he is going right to the top of the game. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for more updates about this one.
