Liverpool manager Arne Slot tasted defeat for the first time in his current role with a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Forest at Anfield.

The winner arrived in the 72nd minute, not long after Slot had tried to change the outcome with a triple substitution.

Diogo Jota, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz made way on the hour mark, replaced by Darwin Nunez, Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo.

Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones then replaced Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate after Hudson-Odoi’s goal.

Tony Cascarino slams Mohamed Salah as Liverpool lose to Nottingham Forest

But Slot’s changes certainly didn’t work out the way he planned, with the Reds failing to find the back of the net.

Sharing his thoughts on the changes, Tony Cascarino said on talkSPORT: “Look at it this way, Liverpool haven’t started this season poorly. They had a poor result yesterday, and Forest are a good side, they’re dangerous, lots and lots of pace in there.

“What I would say, I think Slot got it slightly wrong yesterday in the fact that Mac Allister was their best player, quite clearly in the game, and he took him off, made changes.

“He should have taken Mo [Salah] off yesterday. Mo was completely not at the races in my opinion. He’s been terrific at the start of the season, and you could make the point you need a goal, you keep the same players on.

“But Mo’s touch, when he’s at his worst, it was bouncing off him, he couldn’t get anything under control very quickly. It just felt like that wasn’t his day, bad day at the office for Mo Salah yesterday.”

Mohamed Salah has set very high Liverpool standards

Salah certainly wasn’t at his best against Nottingham Forest, but no Liverpool player stood out on a miserable day for the Reds.

The Egyptian has set his standards at Anfield extremely high, meaning when those standards are not reached, criticism will inevitably go his way.

Alisson says Salah has been ‘unbelievable’ at Liverpool, with his presence on the pitch undoubtedly giving his team a better chance of winning any match.

Paul Merson says Liverpool should prioritise Salah over Van Dijk, with both players rapidly approaching the end of their contracts.

The winger will undoubtedly be disappointed with his latest display, but the Anfield faithful can expect a very quick recovery from their star attacker.
