Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is constantly name-dropped in the debate regarding the best midfielders to have ever played the game.
Gerrard never won the Premier League with Liverpool, but left the club a legend in 2015 after making over 700 appearances.
The former Anfield icon is currently in the dugout at Al-Ettifaq, but is keeping a close eye on the Reds, with Gerrard messaging Trent Alexander-Arnold after the recent win over Man United.
Gerrard also messaged Harry Kane after his 100th England cap, with the Bayern Munich striker joining the Liverpool legend in reaching that figure.
The former midfielder banged in a stunning 186 goals from midfield during his time with the Reds, helping them win the Champions League in 2005.

James Maddison chooses between Steven Gerrard and Kevin De Bruyne
Current midfield star James Maddison has now discussed just how special Gerrard was on the pitch, with the Tottenham Hotspur ace having been tasked by Sky Sports to name the ultimate Premier League midfielder.
Maddison was forced to choose between Luka Modric, Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Kevin De Bruyne, with the Spurs star saying: “Gerrard, oh, it’s going to be tough not to put him in there because I do think he’s the best midfield player ever probably in the Premier League.

“The only thing is because he’s still playing now, Kevin De Bruyne, I think when he’s finished and when we look back I think he’s going to be number one. What he can do with the ball is just ridiculous.
“I’m going to go for Steven Gerrard. He literally was the ultimate midfielder, he could do everything.”
Will Kevin De Bruyne help Man City pip Liverpool to another league title?
De Bruyne is, of course, still shining under Pep Guardiola at Man City, linking up expertly with the likes of Erling Haaland.
He has a goal and assist to his name this season, helping the Manchester outfit storm to four wins from four in the Premier League.
The Belgian will undoubtedly go down as one of the best midfielders to ever grace the Premier League when he finally moves on from England.

For now, however, he remains at the very top of his game, and will be eyeing yet another league title this season.
Liverpool will be desperate to put an end to the Man City dominance, but the two clubs have to wait until December to meet for the first time this season.
