Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be delighted that many of his star players have returned back from the international break.

Slot had to wait patiently for many Liverpool players to return to club duty following the likes of Euro 2024 and Copa America this summer.

And after just three matches into his tenure the Dutchman has been forced to go through a similar situation.

On the plus side, however, many Liverpool players took their early season form into the international break.

Among those closest to home was defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who certainly impressed under interim manager Lee Carsley.

Darren Bent praises unique Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

Roy Keane praised Alexander-Arnold following the 2-0 win over Finland, with England also beating Ireland by the same scoreline.

Alexander-Arnold was named Man of the Match in both Nations League games, sparking a debate on talkSPORT over his Three Lions future.

“I want to talk about Trent,” Andy Goldstein said on talkSPORT, with pundit Darren Bent responding: “Oh my goodness.”

Goldstein then labelled Alexander-Arnold the first-choice right-back, with Bent commenting: “I think Trent now, moving forward with that range of passing, we haven’t got anyone like that in the squad, and that includes midfield players as well. He can hit a pass from anywhere, but just turn defence into attack so quickly.

“And yes, people might make one or two comments about him defensively, but there’s enough around him if one of the centre-backs comes over, or [Bukayo] Saka who plays on that right-hand side, if he comes back and drops in… one of the midfield players, [Kobbie] Mainoo or [Declan] Rice comes over to help him, hopefully he doesn’t get as isolated as he has been as before.

“With the way that he plays, that range of passing, we’ve got no one else like that. And if you’ve got runners like Saka or Anthony Gordon, or I know [Harry] Kane drops in, if [Ollie] Watkins comes on, or Eberechi Eze, these guys that want to run in behind, you need someone who’s going to be able to unlock that.

“Especially when you play against a defensively low block team at times, not everything can be to feet, because they’ll just move five yards, you’re not moving anything, you’re not changing the picture.

“The moment you have someone like a Trent who just goes from out of nowhere to 50 yards over the top, everyone’s chasing and facing their own goal, all of a sudden it opens up the whole pitch, so I’m with you, he has to play.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold really impressing for Liverpool and England

Former England manager Gareth Southgate seemingly didn’t see what most others see in Alexander-Arnold.

Fortunately, however, Carsley does, with the Liverpool right-back playing all 180 minutes across the matches against Ireland and Finland.

Moreover, the interim boss played Alexander-Arnold at right-back, which is unquestionably his greatest position on the pitch.

The Anfield star looked at home in the Nations League wins, linking up with his attackers expertly while also keeping two clean sheets.

That adds to the three clean sheets that he has already kept under Arne Slot at Liverpool this season, with all parties undoubtedly eager for the top displays to keep on coming.
