Caoimhin Kelleher is one of many Liverpool players who were expected to leave this summer, yet as we know, the goalkeeper remained at Anfield.

The Republic of Ireland international has been backup for Alisson Becker for the past few seasons, with Kelleher establishing himself as a top replacement for the Brazilian superstar having come through Liverpool’s academy.

Yet with Kelleher hinting that Liverpool blocked him from leaving this summer, it’s clear that the 25-year-old is ready to move on from the Merseyside giants, especially with the Reds signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

And Kelleher has now detailed what he plans to do in order to leave Liverpool.

Kelleher set to hold Liverpool talks over potential January exit

Speaking to the press ahead of Ireland’s UEFA Nations League tie against Greece, Kelleher suggested that discussions with Liverpool will be coming up in the next few months on what to do with his future.

With Kelleher unlikely to play a lot of club football between now and the January transfer window, the Cork-born goalkeeper will be intent on leaving Liverpool once and for all once the market is back open for business.

And having had bids rejected this summer by Liverpool, Kelleher can rightly feel agitated by how he has been treated, with the 25-year-old clearly keen to move on and become a starting goalkeeper away from Merseyside.

Kelleher said when asked about leaving Liverpool: “There were some bids rejected in the summer, I don’t know if that will get revisited in January. Those discussions need to be had in the coming months but for the next few months I will be committed to Liverpool.”

Liverpool owe it to Kelleher to sort out a January transfer

With Kelleher clearly good enough to become a no. 1 goalkeeper for a top Premier League or European club, Liverpool owe it to the Ireland international to sort out a January transfer for the 25-year-old.

Kelleher is at a precious period in his career where the goalkeeper needs to be playing regular football if his development is to progress, with the Irish star having the potential to become a real star between the sticks.

And Liverpool owe it to Kelleher to give him a transfer in January, with the Anfield no. 2 simply too good to spend another season sat on the bench for the Reds behind Alisson.
