Liverpool focused heavily on outgoings in the summer transfer window, many of which involved young players.

The Anfield faithful were, however, perhaps worried to see some of the club’s young stars leaving Liverpool permanently in the summer.

Talented midfielder Bobby Clark joined Red Bull Salzburg, with Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg moving to Brentford.

Fortunately, Arne Slot and FSG did have the sense to keep hold of a handful of talents, sending them on loan rather than losing them altogether.

Young winger Ben Doak has temporarily joined Middlesbrough, with Stefan Bajcetic temporarily joining Clark at RB Salzburg.

Bobby Clark and Tyler Morton react as Lewis Koumas makes competitive Wales debut

Another youngster leaving Liverpool on loan was Lewis Koumas, who signed a new contract with the Reds last month before agreeing a temporary switch to Stoke City.

Slot made the right call with Koumas, who has already scored two goals for the Potters, while he has now made a big step on the international stage.

The forward made his competitive Wales debut in their goalless draw with Turkey, coming off the bench in the 0-0 Nations League stalemate.

Koumas shared his delight on Instagram, saying: “What dreams are made of, competitive debut for Wales in the Nations League, so much more to come.”

Both Clark and Tyler Morton were quick to react, with the former writing “Top” and the latter commenting “Love it”.

What does the future hold for Lewis Koumas at Liverpool?

Liverpool loanee Koumas is following in the footsteps of his father Jason, who was also a Wales international during his fine playing career.

The 18-year-old, who can operate anywhere across the front line, will now have grand ambitions of his own, both for club and country.

He made his senior debut for the Reds last season, with Jurgen Klopp labelling Koumas ‘special’ right before he found the back of the net on his only Liverpool appearance to date.

The goal arrived in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton, with the Anfield faithful rightfully excited about what Koumas can bring to the club in the near future.

For now, however, his focus will be on continuing to impress in the Championship, as well as shining under Wales boss and former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy.
