Wataru Endo makes prediction about his Liverpool chances after claims Arne Slot wanted to sell him

The first international break of the season often gives Liverpool players the chance to speak a little more freely after what’s happened over the summer.

Given that things can be taken out of context or simply the difficulty of speaking to the English press, players are a little less guarded when away with their countries.

With the chance to speak to familiar journalists in their native tongues, Liverpool players are no different in trying to get their stories across.

Following a summer where Arne Slot reportedly put him up for sale at Liverpool, it has been interesting to hear Wataru Endo employ that tactic this week.

It was claimed over the off-season that Slot wanted to sell Endo, but without a replacement being brought in, the Japan captain ended up staying put.

Wataru Endo predicts Liverpool chance

Although he did manage to take his Anfield career into a second season, Endo has so far featured little since the start of the campaign.

The 31-year-old made a very late substitute appearance during the 2-0 win over Brentford but has otherwise remained rooted to the bench.

Nevertheless, Endo remains a key player for his country. The former Stuttgart man captained the side as usual during Thursday’s 7-0 win over China and even got the opening goal of the game.

And speaking in quotes via Yahoo Sports after that big win, the Liverpool man insisted that chances will come back on Merseyside.

“When the international break is finished there is a run of games so I’ll get more chances,” says Endo.

“You can’t just use 11 players when you have a lot of games. I’m sure I’ll get my turn.

“My physical condition won’t be a problem,” he adds. “I’ve been training well and I’m not worried about it.”

Will Wataru Endo get his chance?

It had looked for a little while during the summer that Endo’s time at Liverpool would be reduced to a single season.

But having hung on, it would be nice to see him force his way back into Slot’s plans.

Endo struggled initially under Jurgen Klopp last season it must be said. But having spent time putting in the necessary work at the AXA Training Centre, he soon learned the role.

If he’s given the chance to do the same this season, it would be a fool who bet against him. We’re sure that Endo has been working as hard as anyone to make the new coach’s tactical ideas stick.

With the Carabao Cup and Champions League starting not long after the international break is over, we think Endo is right and that he’ll finally be given a chance to show what he’s learned.
