While Sunday’s win over Manchester United was a glorious one for Liverpool, talk has soon turned to a slightly less enjoyable topic.
The Reds swept past United at Old Trafford to record a perfect start in the Premier League after three games.
However, while the win has rightfully been lauded and celebrated in the days since, Mohamed Salah ensured that it is talk of his future at Liverpool which has dominated headlines instead.
Salah threw down the gauntlet to Liverpool post-game, declaring live on television that nobody from the club has been in touch with him about signing a new contract.
With the Egyptian currently set to depart on a free at the end of the season, this has led to speculation about what Liverpool can do to keep Salah around. Now, Mo’s former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fabregas has given his take.

Cesc Fabregas states Mo Salah ‘belief’
Fabregas and Salah were teammates at Chelsea throughout Mo’s short period with the West London club.
Although it was not a successful time for Liverpool’s No.11, he clearly made an impression on the Spanish midfielder.
Fabregas has raved about Salah in the past, claiming that he’s delighted to see how much the Egypt captain has improved since their days together.
As a result of that shared period with Chelsea, Fabregas and Salah do have a personal relationship.

So, when the current Como manager was asked by BBC’s Planet Premier League for his thoughts on Salah’s post-United comments, it was worth listening.
Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, however, Fabregas does not think that it is good news.
“I believe that he is telling the truth,” says the World Cup winner. “I don’t know if he’s looking for a new contract, maybe yes, maybe I’m being naïve here.
“But I think, knowing Mo a little bit, he will send a message because he really feels that this is his last year and he will move on at the end.”
Liverpool must prove Cesc Fabregas wrong
It’s important to say that Fabregas was simply giving his opinion here. Despite his relationship to Salah, the Spaniard did not appear to have any particular insight into the situation.
In our own opinion, Salah’s comments sounded much more like a challenge to the club to offer him an acceptable contract.
Had he been definitive that it was his decision to leave at the end of the season, the 32-year-old would surely have said it with much more conviction.
Either way though, this is now a ridiculous situation for Liverpool to have put themselves in. An answer needs to come by way of a contract offer or an official statement that Salah will leave.
The longer it goes on without either, the more nervous fans will become and the higher the chance that Fabregas may end up being right.
