Liverpool were once again on the winning side against Manchester United with a comfortable 3-0 win against their old rivals.

With the Red Devils showing off their new signing Manuel Ugarte before kick-off and Erik Ten Hag starting three new additions, the game was a testament to the trust Arne Slot has in his current Liverpool squad.

With just the one signing for this season in Federico Chiesa, who didn’t even feature, Liverpool’s decision to not delve too deep into the transfer market could prove to be a stroke of genius if the Reds can avoid any injuries to major players this year.

And Frank Lampard now thinks Liverpool could save millions after what he saw against United.

Liverpool told they don’t need a ‘top-class’ midfielder after Manchester United win

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the former Chelsea manager shared that performances from Liverpool’s midfield against United really showed that they didn’t need to sign a new no. 6 this summer.

WIth Ryan Gravenberch compared to Patrick Vieira and Alexis Mac Allister praised by his teammates, it’s safe to say that Liverpool’s midfielders had quite a fun day out at Old Trafford, even with Luis Diaz stealing the headlines.

And for Lampard, the former England international believes there’s enough in Liverpool’s midfield to really go for it this season, with the Reds looking good against United despite no new faces from this summer.

Lampard said: “They have talked a lot about buying a top-class number six, but the way they played, they don’t necessarily need that because of their set-up. You have Mac Allister and Gravenberch who were next to each other, their two sixes, and Szoboszlai took up this position higher on the left-hand side.”

Liverpool’s new midfield could be something special

One of the reason behind Liverpool’s somewhat disappointing season last term was Jurgen Klopp’s inability to find the right midfield three after so much change in the position last summer.

However, one year on and one new manager later, Slot seems to have cracked the code on which three players to play in the midfield, with Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai all working well together in the centre of the park.

And if the trio can stay fit, Liverpool’s new midfield could become something very special, with the Reds looking fine-tuned already to challenge for the Premier League title.
