Wolves set to sign £29million player who rejected Liverpool last year

Liverpool are yet to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, with other departments strengthened instead.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has joined Liverpool, although he will remain at Valencia for another season, while Liverpool have agreed a deal for Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

Their signatures come after the Reds failed in their lengthy pursuit of Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The number six has opted to stay at his hometown club, with Arne Slot seemingly not keen on any other players in that position.

There is, of course, still time for Liverpool to bring in a new number six, although the transfer deadline does close on Friday.

Wolves close in on Andre after he rejected Liverpool

Liverpool were forced to strengthen their midfield last summer, with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo all signed.

But there was one player they failed to persuade to come to Anfield, with Fluminense midfielder Andre having rejected Liverpool last summer.

Andre is worth £29million, with Fabrizio Romano now reporting that he is close to joining Premier League club Wolves.

The journalist reported on X that the deal is almost done, with just the final details needing to be sorted for the 23-year-old.

Will Liverpool regret failed move for Andre?

Only time will tell if Liverpool will regret not pursuing a move for Andre, who could set the Premier League alight with Wolves.

But one certainty is that the Reds did spend well last summer when they revamped their midfield, having lost the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also moved on, with Jurgen Klopp making a handful of smart signings.

Slot will be very grateful that his predecessor made those signings, with Mac Allister proving to be a particular hit at Anfield.

But Szoboszlai and Gravenberch look like they can become key Liverpool players, while Endo’s future is up in the air despite his impressive and important displays last season.
