Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez has struggled for game time in Arne Slot’s brief time at the club so far.

Jamie Carragher says Nunez has a problem at Liverpool, with the Uruguayan having played just 18 minutes so far this season.

Nunez remained on the bench for the opening day win against Ipswich, before appearing in the latter stages of the win against Brentford.

Peter Crouch says Nunez won’t be happy after missing out against Ipswich, with the Reds following up their 2-0 away win with a 2-0 home victory against the Bees.

Nunez moved to Anfield from Benfica for £85million in June 2022, and has scored 33 goals from his 97 appearances.

What Darwin Nunez did as Liverpool beat Brentford

He watched on from the bench as fellow attackers Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah combined in style against Brentford.

But according to former Liverpool player Steve Nicol, Nunez wasn’t as excited as he perhaps should have been during the victory.

“A little thing on Nunez,” Nicol said on ESPN. “I don’t know whether anybody noticed, but I don’t know if it was the first or the second goal, the camera panned straight to the bench and he never moved a muscle, he never.

“Every single person around him was up, was smiling, was clapping and he was sat with his hands on his knees and he never buzzed.”

Darwin Nunez must be patient under Arne Slot

There is every chance that Nunez is simply being eased back into club life after his international exploits, having played for Uruguay at Copa America this summer.

But his fellow South Americans Diaz, Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister have all featured heavily under Slot so far.

The new Reds manager has impressed in his brief spell in the Anfield dugout, with four goals scored and zero conceded from two matches.

Changing his formula to allow Nunez into the fray would be silly, but the attacker will undoubtedly get his chances soon.

Liverpool are back in the Champions League, and Slot will need his entire squad to be ready given that fatigue and injuries are set to come into play.

Nunez has proven he knows where the net is during his Reds career, but his lack of composure in front of goal and indeed his temper may have cost him a starting place for the start of the season.
