Richard Keys says what he found weird about the atmosphere at Anfield in Arne Slot’s first home game for Liverpool

Arne Slot has ticked off his first home outing as Liverpool boss with a convincing win.

Slot got his Reds career underway last weekend with an away victory over Ipswich Town and backed that up with three more points against Brentford.

It was a typical Anfield performance from Liverpool in many ways. Convincing, relatively untroubled and running out comfortable victors.

This is all new for Slot, of course, but the head coach seems to have settled into the routine of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world very easily indeed.

Slot approached the Kop at full-time, and supporters showed that they are clearly pleased with their new man. But according to presenter Richard Keys, all is not quite right at Anfield.

In many ways, Slot could hardly have gotten off to a better start in his Liverpool career. A few more goals would maybe have been nice, but that might also lead to a little complacency.

It’s perhaps better that the Dutchman and his coaching staff are left with plenty of room for improvement as the campaign wears on.

As Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou found out last year, you don’t want to burn out too quickly in the Premier League. A slower, cooler start can often be the way to succeed.

Obviously, it’s going to take Liverpool fans a little while to warm up to the new regime, too.

After so long of seeing Jurgen Klopp as a virtual extension of themselves, supporters have had to change their perceptions of the man on the touchline. That brings a certain disconnect at the beginning.

Ignoring that nuance, though, Keys told beIN SPORTS that the ‘unease’ around Anfield does in fact stem from the slightly calmer way Slot wants his team to play football compared to Klopp.

“I think whilst he’s winning games he’ll be okay, but that was eerily quiet today,” says Keys. “If they start running in mud a little, I think that crowd will start to get a little bit uneasy.

“They go out to be entertained and the brand of football he’s likely to serve up – the goal fantastic, I mean, no complaints –  but too much passing and no intensity.

“I think there’ll be one or two Liverpool fans wanting what they’ve been used to and not that.”

This is not the first time that Keys has predicted that Liverpool fans will inevitably turn on Slot.

The former Sky Sports presenter claimed earlier in August that Slot’s style of play will not go down well at Anfield.

While every set of fans want to be entertained when they turn up for a game, we think Keys is severely underestimating Liverpool supporters here.

Reds sat through some pretty turgid football under Rafa Benitez and often did so with big smiles and loud cheers with the Spaniard at the helm. If you win trophies, all will be forgiven.

The beginning was always likely to be slightly awkward with Slot and Anfield. But we think the Dutchman handled things brilliantly. The relationship is off to a winning start and as familiarity grows, things will get better, not worse.
