Luis Garcia gives honest verdict on watching Liverpool under Arne Slot so far

Liverpool registered their second win in a row under Arne Slot on Sunday.

The Reds were relatively comfortable in a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend and followed that up with the same scoreline against Brentford.

It was a serene enough welcome to Anfield for Liverpool’s new head coach, who has made a good impression so far.

As seems to have become standard already, Brentford manager Thomas Frank explained the differences between Slot and Jurgen Klopp after seeing his team beaten by the Reds.

Frank has not been the only one to have spotted some differences, with former Liverpool player Luis Garcia the latest to chime in.

Luis Garcia delivers Arne Slot verdict

Liverpool supporters knew there would be a difference in style between Slot and Klopp. No two managers are ever the same in football.

Those changes have become clear in the opening weeks of the Premier League season, although they are really quite subtle.

Nevertheless, it has been interesting for supporters to get the sense of a new way of playing after so many years of familiarity with Klopp.

While it perhaps wasn’t the most exciting of wins against Brentford, it was still very effective.

And taking to X after the game, Garcia shared his view of how ‘Slot ball’ is shaping up for his old team.

“Liverpool 2 v 0 Brentford, I like what I see, just the second match, but honestly, it looks very good,” said the Champions League winner.

“Solid, composed, dangerous, dynamic, and with lots of options waiting their opportunity. Now, consistency.”

Liverpool solidity improves under Arne Slot

There were constant remarks by Garcia’s old Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher during the commentary on Sunday’s game that the crowd at Anfield were quiet.

However, that was likely in part down to the fact that the football is on the whole slightly less dynamic with Slot at the helm.

The key word does appear to be ‘control’ for the Dutchman, though, and Liverpool supporters will not care if it means they win games comfortably.

One statistic worth noting came from Squawka after the game. They reported that “Liverpool have kept as many clean sheets in two games under Arne Slot than in Jurgen Klopp’s final 17 Premier League games in charge.” Wow.

Of course, there are nuances behind every statistic and it would be unwise to read too much into that. But it’s safe to say that Liverpool have made a very promising start with Slot guiding them.
