Heading into the final 10 days of the transfer market, Liverpool are still the only Premier League side yet to make a signing.
It has been an unusual summer at Anfield, with supporters growing restless that no business will be done.
As the days tick down, it is starting to feel inevitable to some that the Liverpool squad will feature no new faces at all for the 2024/25 campaign.
In the eyes of many, that would be an enormous mistake. Liverpool came up short last season under Jurgen Klopp and it does not seem especially likely that Arne Slot could get more out of the same players at this stage.
But while the prevailing attitude amongst the fanbase has been one of anger and – at times, disgust – legendary former centre-back Jamie Carragher has offered a different perspective.

Although Liverpool haven’t done any incoming business at all, there does not seem any great urgency to change that in these final days of the window.
Giorgi Mamardashvili might still be signed, but that is a transfer for the future, not the present.
Liverpool showed why they may be happy to hold what they have on Saturday, with an excellent second-half display kicking their season off with a convincing win over Ipswich.
Analysing that win on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher was asked by Gary Neville for his view on his old club keeping their powder dry this summer.

“Are you worried by no signings?” Neville said to the Liverpool legend.
“There are areas of the team and the squad that we need to strengthen, that’s obvious,” Carragher replied.
“But I love the fact that not just now but even in the past we don’t panic. I really admire that.
“When I see the situation with Chelsea and it’s just players coming and going left, right and centre, it scares me that. I never want it to be like that.”
Will Liverpool make a signing?
While we understand where Carragher is coming from, no Liverpool supporter is realistically wanting the club to be anything like Chelsea.
There can surely be a happy medium found between signing a raft of players and not signing anyone at all. Especially when, as Carra says, the squad is crying out for a couple of quality additions.
Nevertheless, there doesn’t seem to be a great deal of hope that Liverpool will bring in anyone aside from potentially Mamardashvili.
There have been claims that Liverpool could bid for Goncalo Inacio and surely if Joe Gomez ends up being sold then the Reds have to do something.
But for now, things are incredibly quiet. Unless something comes out of nowhere – which is possible – we wouldn’t be getting our hopes up too much.
