Trent Alexander-Arnold has been one of Liverpool’s most important players ever since breaking into the first-team as an 18-year-old under Jurgen Klopp.

The defender has established himself as one of the best right-backs on the planet and a player who has redefined the position in recent seasons, with Alexander-Arnold likely to one day transition into central midfield for Liverpool.

With Alan Shearer praising Alexander-Arnold after his performance against Ipswich Town, the England international has started the new Premier League season in fine form already under new manager Arne Slot.

Yet pundit Janusz Michallik has shared what Alexander-Arnold needs to do if he’s to succeed this season.

Alexander-Arnold told to embrace leadership role at Liverpool

Speaking to ESPN FC, the former USA international noted how Alexander-Arnold needs to embrace being a leader at Liverpool this season, with the defender now one of the most experienced players in the first-team in terms of appearances for the Reds.

Michallik said when asked what he expects to see from Alexander-Arnold this season: “I think Trent at the age of 25, his leadership already, and what he means to Liverpool being a local boy, I think it’s super important.

“Obviously, if he’s going to be inverted, if he’s going to come in midfield, if he’s going to get involved in the attack like he did at his best a couple of seasons ago, I think it’s key.

“I think it’s vital, absolutely vital, that Trent Alexander-Arnold plays a good season for Liverpool and stays with Liverpool for the foreseeable future.”

Alexander-Arnold can take on a new importance at Liverpool this season

Alexander-Arnold is arguably as influential as he ever has been at Liverpool, with the defender the current vice-captain and seemingly getting better and between with each new season.

And this year could see Alexander-Arnold take on a new importance at Liverpool under Slot, who is already getting the best out of the defender based on the fullback’s performance against Ipswich.

Embracing a leadership role will be key for Alexander-Arnold this season, and the right-back will want to take his quality to new heights as Liverpool look to challenge for the Premier League this campaign.
