Liverpool got off to a winning start under Arne Slot, after recording a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.

It wasn’t a straightforward game for the Reds and they came off second best for most of the first-half.

However, whatever Slot said to his team at half-time clearly worked, with Liverpool coming out for the second-half in dominating fashion.

Two goals were scored and, in fairness, the Reds should have put a bucketful more in the net, too.

Throughout the game, you could see what Liverpool want to do differently under Slot and the new head coach certainly seems to have the stamp of approval from the travelling Kop.

Liverpool fans sing Arne Slot chant

Had the game carried on in the manner of the first-half performance, there would have been some difficult questions for Slot to answer at full-time.

Despite a good pre-season, the Reds looked miles off the pace during the opening 45 minutes at Portman Road.

Almost instantly in the second-half, though, Liverpool turned it on. Luis Diaz missed a sitter before Diogo Jota did exactly the same.

By the time Jota slotted in Mohamed Salah’s square ball to put the Reds 1-0 up the goal had been coming for a long while.

Salah soon added to his assist with a goal, before Liverpool started playing some real exhibition stuff.

The switch in display was massively appreciated by the 3,000 Reds fans who made the trip down to Suffolk.

With the game ticking into the last 10 minutes, BBC Sport journalist Neil Johnston noted hearing them belting out the name of their new boss.

“Arne Slot na na na na…Arne Slot na na na na. Seventy-eight minutes on the clock and Liverpool’s fans in the crowd of 30,014 are singing the name of the new boss loud and proud,” says Johnston.

At half-time, the Liverpool fans in the ground must have been a little worried that Slot was about to get off to a false start.

Although Ipswich never really troubled the Reds too much defensively, things were not clicking going the other way.

After the break, though, Liverpool were brilliant. True, they should have scored far more than they did, but the movement, chance creation and ball retention was a joy to watch.

If this is what Reds fans can look forward to with Slot at the helm, then there’s plenty of reason to be excited.

Klopp gave them this tune to celebrate their new boss and you can imagine Jurgen watched this one with a beaming smile on his face.
