Liverpool have undergone a massive summer of change with the departure of Jurgen Klopp, yet early signs under Arne Slot are promising.
A thrilling 4-1 win against Sevilla capped off Liverpool’s pre-season as the Reds also secured impressive victories this summer against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, with Slot already getting his new side ticking.
One big talking point, though, has been the lack of transfers, with Liverpool so far yet to sign a single player nor let a first-team member departure, with not one penny being spent or recouped this summer.
And club captain Virgil van Dijk has now shared his verdict on the lack of transfer activity.
Van Dijk ‘confident’ Liverpool will get new signings over the line
Speaking to the press after Sunday’s win against Sevilla, Van Dijk shared that he is ‘confident’ that Liverpool will bring in the players needed to ensure that the Reds can compete in every competition this season.
With Liverpool closing in on Martin Zubimendi, it might not be long before the Reds announce their first signing of the summer in the Real Sociedad star, and Van Dijk believes fans should trust what is happening behind the scenes this month.

Van Dijk said when asked if he thinks new signings will be made this summer: “I am confident. Obviously, I think we should make some signings based on how long the season will go but I think they are working behind the scenes.
“But I am fully confident and I have trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad to compete in every competition, that is the main thing I am focusing on. We have the trust and we will see what happens. They are working very hard behind the scenes, so we will see how that turns out.”
Liverpool should have conducted their summer business earlier
Liverpool leaving it so late in the transfer market to begin making signings is something fans are unfamiliar with given how early Klopp used to bring in new players during the summer.
And whilst business is now starting to get done, Liverpool might have made an error in beginning talks for targets as late as they have in the window, with the new Premier League season starting this week.
Indeed, Liverpool have shown in pre-season that they look ready to take on England’s best, but new signings earlier in the summer could have been helpful, especially with how many top players competed in tournaments.
