Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Martin Zubimendi, and the pursuit for the midfielder looks set to come to a head this week.

The Reds have identified the Spanish international as their main target, with Liverpool telling Real Sociedad of their intentions to move for Zubimendi, a move that could cost £51m.

With Zubimendi yet to decide if he even wants to leave Sociedad, though, Liverpool could be about to hit a sticking point in their quest to sign the 25-year-old, with a no. 6 high up on Arne Slot’s list of transfer priorities.

And Liverpool have no issued an ultimatum for Zubimendi and to Sociedad.

Liverpool set Wednesday deadline for Zubimendi to decide on transfer

According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Liverpool have issued a Wednesday deadline for Zubimendi to reach a final decision on whether or not the midfielder wants to leave his boyhood club to make the move to Anfield.

WIth the Premier League season starting this weekend, Liverpool arguably should have been more productive earlier in the window in their bid to sign, rather than waiting until one of the last possible moments to sign the midfielder.

However, Liverpool issuing an ultimatum to Zubimendi and Sociedad could speed up the process greatly, with the Spanish international clearly caught in two minds on what he thinks is best for his career.

Indeed, there’s good reason why Zubimendi is not sold yet on leaving his boyhood team for Liverpool given how much success the Basque giants have enjoyed in recent years, yet a decision to move to the Premier League could be worth it in the long-term.

Zubimendi might know that Anfield move is best for his career

Sociedad is a special club that means a lot to those who have grown up with the team and gone on to play for the first-team, with Zubimendi making the journey from the academy into the seniors.

Yet having achieved so much already with Sociedad, Zubimendi might already know that a move to Liverpool might be the best for his career, which could explode in the Premier League with the Reds.

The Spanish international has shown he can play against the best in the world with Sociedad and La Roja, and Liverpool would be a fitting move for Zubimendi at this stage in his career.
