Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been linked with a summer transfer window move away from Anfield.

Van Dijk is set to receive offers from Saudi Arabia, with the defender’s Liverpool contract expiring next summer.

Jarell Quansah says Van Dijk is the world’s best centre-back, with the duo having played together at times last season.

Liverpool fans will not want their star defender to leave, particularly given that Van Dijk wears the captain’s armband.

He is a leader both on and off the pitch, and losing him would perhaps be the biggest blow that Arne Slot could suffer.

Fabrizio Romano shares Virgil van Dijk update at Liverpool

The Reds have already lost fellow centre-back Joel Matip, with Slot yet to replace him in defence after his exit earlier this summer.

And journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Van Dijk potentially following Matip out the door at Anfield.

“There is no news at all on Virgil van Dijk, despite some stories at various points this summer,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“It’s currently very quiet as Liverpool are counting on Van Dijk and there are no significant updates so far.

“In my opinion, he should stay and continue as he’s a key player for Liverpool and new manager Arne Slot will need him and the quality and experience he brings.”

Liverpool cannot afford to lose Virgil van Dijk

Van Dijk has been one of the leading defenders in football for several years now, having also improved those around him.

The experienced defender has undoubtedly helped progress youngster Quansah, with that duo potentially playing together once more this season.

Liverpool could, however, turn to the transfer window to bring in defensive reinforcements, although time is running out to do that.

Van Dijk has also formed strong connections with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, helping the two full-backs take their games to another level.

And the centre-back has also formed a strong partnership with Alisson, with the duo set to be key to any success Slot may enjoy in his early Anfield tenure.
