A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Arne Slot makes a huge decision regarding Darwin Nunez and the Reds hear how Real Sociedad see Martin Zubimendi’s transfer.
Liverpool want to start a bidding war to sell Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool are trying to start a public bidding war to sell Fabio Carvalho after the Anfield club rejected a £15m bid from Southampton. The Merseyside natives do not feel the south coast side put enough on the table to sell but are more than open to seeing the 21-year-old leave.
That is according to BBC Radio Solent’s sports editor Adam Blakemore, who reports that the Reds rejecting the Saints’ opening offer was an invitation for any further suitors to make any moves. It follows the playmaker’s mixed campaign away from Liverpool on loan last season.

Carvalho started the 2023/24 term struggling to force his way into the line-up at RB Leipzig for 158 minutes of Bundesliga action over nine appearances. But a move to Hull City in the January window helped Carvalho bounce back with nine goals in 20 Championship outings.

Arne Slot sees Darwin Nunez playing as a striker for Liverpool
There is a new head coach at Liverpool in Arne Slot and Darwin Nunez may enjoy a different role in the 2024/25 season, too. That is according to The Guardian, which reports that Slot is keen to play the 25-year-old as a striker, rather than on their left wing like Jurgen Klopp had.
Nunez regularly occupied areas on the flank during the German’s final campaign in charge of the Reds last season. But Slot does not believe playing the Uruguayan as a winger will be the most beneficial use of his talents. So, Nunez can expect to play more regularly in the centre.
Liverpool have seen Nunez provide a threat in the final third from either position since their potential club-record transfer with SL Benfica in July 2022. The attacker has 12 goals plus eight assists as a striker to seven goals plus three assists off the wing in the Premier League.

Real Sociedad are shocked Liverpool are targeting Martin Zubimendi’s transfer

Liverpool shocked Real Sociedad by targeting Martin Zubimendi after Arsenal failed to agree a transfer this summer. That is according to Graeme Bailey, who has exclusively told Rousing The Kop that the Txuri-Urdin believed they weathered the storm surrounding their Spaniard.
Real Sociedad were confident that Zubimendi was staying in La Liga for the new season as the Euro 2024 winner rejected a transfer to Arsenal. But intermediaries are now in talks with Liverpool and Zubimendi regarding a move to Anfield and it is not certain that he will say no.
It is not impossible that Arsenal react to Zubimendi’s new openness to a move to England by reviving Mikel Arteta’s interest, as well. The Gunners coach put a lot of effort into signing his compatriot after the 25-year-old anchored Real Sociedad’s core with four goals in 2023/24.
