Liverpool have been the quietest Premier League club in the transfer market this summer but are expected to come alive in the upcoming weeks.
Arne Slot has had enough time to evaluate his squad and could be tempted to dip into the transfer market for reinforcements as their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town edges closer.
Liverpool’s squad seems stacked at the minute in terms of numbers, so they may need to trim their squad before adding to it. A handful of young players have been linked with loan moves, but two first-team stars who are attracting interest on a permanent transfer are Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg.
Liverpool agreed a deal to sell Gomez to Newcastle United before the Magpies pulled the plug on it, while Van den Berg is attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe. If Liverpool were to lose at least one central defender, they are likely to dip in the transfer market for replacements, with Marc Guehi emerging as a target.
However, if reports are to be believed, Guehi is not the only Crystal Palace player Liverpool are keeping tabs on.
Joachim Andersen could emerge as an intriguing option for Liverpool
According to a report from Caught Offside, Joachim Andersen has emerged on Liverpool’s radar, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also credited with an interest.

While nothing is advanced at this stage as Liverpool are just ‘monitoring’ Andersen, another centre-back link could mean that they are looking to address that position this summer.
Andersen has played 112 times for Crystal Palace since joining the club in 2021, establishing himself as an indispensable member of their backline. With just under two years left on his contract, he could emerge as a cut-price option for Liverpool to add centre-back cover to their squad, although it remains to be seen if Palace are open to a sale.
How did Andersen annoy Nunez?
Andersen is well-known to the Anfield faithful for all the wrong reasons, though. When Liverpool and Crystal Palace locked horns in August 2022 – a game that turned out to be Darwin Nunez‘s home debut – the Uruguayan striker was sent off for headbutting the defender.
Nunez and Andersen were involved in a few scuffles before things hit the fan and the Dane gave his account of the incident after the game. He said (quotes via The Mirror): “The whole game I sat really close to him, I annoyed him a lot and did well against him. I think that’s why he was angry with me.
“He headbutted me, the first one, at a cross, and I told him he shouldn’t do that. I was angry with him. Then he did it again which, for me, is really stupid, so it’s a clear red card.”
Nunez was obviously in the wrong to lash out in the way he did, but if the pair were to become teammates this summer, you’d expect them to bury the hatchet and crack on with business.
