After a very quiet transfer window so far, things look ready to kick off for Liverpool in August.
The Reds sailed through all of June and July without making one single signing – or sale for that matter- but that is set to change.
Incomings are obviously what grab the attention of supporters more and the latest is that Liverpool will accelerate their transfer plans over the next week or so.
But while Arne Slot prepares to add some more quality to his Liverpool squad, the head coach may also have to deal with losing a player or two.
One of those now with big questions over his Liverpool future is Joe Gomez. After being on the verge of joining Newcastle in June, Gomez is considering his next move.

Liverpool ready to promote Sepp van den Berg
This time last year, not too many Liverpool fans would have been all that disappointed to lose Gomez.
The 27-year-old was coming off the back of a really poor season at Anfield and after eight years had looked ready to be moved on.
But Gomez bounced back in 2023/24, making 51 appearances – his most ever at the club – and making a return to being one of the Reds most dependable players.
Whether at centre-back, right-back or, more increasingly, at left-back, Gomez sent a reminder of his quality and made it into England’s Euro 2024 squad.
On the back of that, it would be a shame for Liverpool to lose him. But it seems apparent that Gomez is set to be Slot’s fourth choice centre-back next season and if he wants to go, the Reds should not stand in his way.

Should that happen, though, Liverpool will need a replacement. And according to Sky Sports journalist Anton Toloui, the Reds are happy to promote Sepp van den Berg in his place.
Van den Berg has been linked with a move away, but Toloui says that Slot would be happy to keep him in the first-team if Gomez is sold.
“Liverpool would be pretty happy if Sepp van den Berg, who has really impressed during pre-season games, if he is Liverpool’s fourth choice centre-back going into the season if Gomez does leave,” he says.
“So, they’re really relaxed about the situation concerning him [Van den Berg].”
Time for Sepp van den Berg to step up
All summer long, the expectation has been that Van den Berg would leave Liverpool. With PSV Eindhoven one of a number of interested clubs, it has felt virtually inevitable.
Van den Berg himself wants to leave and has not been especially keen to hide that fact.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old’s good showings in pre-season suggest that he is ready to be considered as a senior player at Liverpool. Van den Berg is displaying why he was called ‘incredibly talented‘ while at Mainz.
If he can put his immediate wish for more game time to one side and play the part of squad player next season, the future could still be bright for him at Anfield.
Of course, if Gomez stays, then Van den Berg is fifth choice and should be free to go. It’ll be interesting to see where we go from here.
